Choosing to treat hearing loss with hearing aids is an important step in your hearing health journey.

Many patients ask what happens next once they’ve decided to move forward.
At Caradoc Hearing, we take time to make the process comfortable, clear, and personalized. Here’s what you can expect at your hearing aid fitting appointment at our locally owned hearing clinic in Strathroy.
Step 1: Obtaining a Hearing Aid Prescription
In Ontario, hearing instrument specialists must have a prescription for hearing aids signed by a physician or audiologist.
After your hearing assessment, we will fax your hearing test results to your family doctor. This serves two purposes:
To obtain the required prescription for hearing aids
To ensure your doctor has a copy of your hearing test for your medical records
Once the prescription is received and your hearing aids arrive at the clinic, we schedule your fitting appointment.
This typically takes about 10 days.
Step 2: The Physical Fit
On the day of your appointment, we begin by ensuring the hearing aids fit comfortably in your ears.
Every ear is unique, so the physical fit is important. We check that the hearing aids sit properly and feel secure before turning them on.
Comfort always comes first.
Step 3: Programming Your Hearing Aids
Once the hearing aids are placed comfortably, we begin the programming process.
We start by confirming that the sound levels are comfortable for you. During this stage, we perform a few important tests including:
Feedback testing to ensure the hearing aids do not whistle
Real Ear Measurements, which help verify the hearing aids are delivering the correct sound levels for your hearing loss
These measurements help ensure your hearing aids are set accurately for your specific hearing profile.
Step 4: Fine-Tuning the Sound
This is one of the most important parts of the fitting appointment.
We rely on your feedback to adjust the hearing aids so they sound natural and comfortable.
You may notice changes in:
Volume
Sound clarity
Tone
Overall listening comfort
We make adjustments based on what you tell us, because hearing care works best when it’s personalized.
Step 5: Learning How to Use Your Hearing Aids
Once your hearing aids are set comfortably, we will show you how to use and care for them.
We will teach you:

How to insert and remove your hearing aids
How to clean them
How to change batteries or recharge them
Basic maintenance tips
As always, we encourage questions throughout the appointment.
Step 6: Your Follow-Up Appointment
Your first follow-up appointment is typically scheduled two weeks after your fitting.
This is an important part of the hearing journey. It gives us a chance to understand how you’ve been adjusting to hearing with your devices in everyday situations.
It’s very common for patients to need adjustments during this stage. Some people adapt quickly, while others need more fine tuning.
We listen carefully to your experience and make the necessary changes so your hearing aids work comfortably for you.
